Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling
  • Colander
  • Skimmer or slotted spoon
  • Large skillet (for sauce)
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Frozen ravioli
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 can 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil chopped
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

Step 1 – Boil the Ravioli

  • Fill a large pot with water, add salt, and bring to a boil.
  • Add frozen ravioli to the boiling water.
  • Cook according to package instructions, usually 4-6 minutes, until they float to the top and are tender.
  • Note: Don’t overcrowd the pot. Cook in batches if needed to prevent sticking.

Step 2 – Prepare the Sauce

  • While the ravioli cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes and red pepper flakes, simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in chopped basil.
  • Warning: Keep the heat moderate to prevent the garlic from burning.

Step 3 – Combine and Serve

  • Using a skimmer, transfer cooked ravioli directly from the pot to the skillet with the sauce.
  • Gently toss the ravioli in the sauce to coat.
  • Serve hot, sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Note: Tossing the ravioli gently is key to keeping them intact.

Notes

  • If you prefer a creamy sauce, add a splash of cream to the tomato sauce before adding the ravioli.
  • For a golden finish, sprinkle the cooked ravioli with mozzarella and broil for 3-4 minutes until bubbly and slightly browned.
