Equipment

  • Deep fryer or a large, heavy-bottomed pot
  • Paper towels for draining
  • Slotted spoon
  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Pickle slices drained
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 2 Eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • To taste Salt and pepper
  • For frying Vegetable oil

Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare the Dry Mix

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mixing the dry ingredients separately ensures an even coating on each pickle slice.

Step 2 – Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs and milk.
  • A tip: Whisk until you get a smooth, lump-free mixture for the best coating.

Step 3 – Heat the Oil

  • Fill your fryer or pot with enough oil to submerge the pickles and heat to 375°F (190°C).

Step 4 – Dredge and Fry

  • Dip each pickle slice into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  • Carefully place the coated pickles in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Note: Don’t overcrowd the fryer; it can lower the oil’s temperature, resulting in soggy pickles.

Notes

  • Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying to keep the pickles crisp.
  • Serve immediately after frying for the best texture.
