  • 1 can 15 oz Diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Freshly ground pepper

Instructions

Step 1 – Brown the Beef

  • Place your pot on the stove over medium heat.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it up with your wooden spoon.
  • Cook until browned and no longer pink.
  • Remove from heat and drain excess fat.
  • “Browning the beef properly is pivotal to lock in flavor!”

Step 2 – Sauté the Onions and Garlic

  • In the same pot, add a bit of oil if needed.
  • Toss in the onions and garlic.
  • Sauté until they become translucent and aromatic.
  • “The aroma of sautéed onions and garlic is the true essence of any savory dish!”

Step 3 – Add Beans and Tomatoes

  • Add kidney beans, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes to the pot.
  • Stir to combine all the ingredients well.

Step 4 – Season and Simmer

  • Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir the mixture until everything is evenly distributed.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • “Letting your chili simmer is crucial. It allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.”

Step 5 – Final Adjustments

  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • If the chili is too thick, add a bit of water to reach your desired consistency.
  • “Always taste your cooking! Your palate is your best tool.”

Notes

  • If you like a bit of heat, add a chopped jalapeño along with the onions.
  • For a smokier flavor, try incorporating a teaspoon of smoked paprika.
