Equipment

  • Pot for boiling pasta
  • Strainer
  • Mixing spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Pastina pasta
  • 4 cups Chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • To taste Salt
  • To taste Black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Boil the Broth

  • Place the chicken broth in a medium-sized pot.
  • Bring the broth to a boil over medium heat.
  • A gentle boil is perfect here—too vigorous and you might reduce the broth too much.

Step 2: Cook the Pastina

  • Add the pastina to the boiling broth.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking.
  • Cook according to the package instructions, usually about 5 minutes, until it is al dente.
  • Keep an eye on the pastina; due to its small size, it cooks quickly and can easily be overcooked.

Step 3: Add Butter and Cheese

  • Once the pastina is cooked, turn off the heat.
  • Stir in the butter and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • The butter and cheese meld together to create a creamy, rich texture that’s absolutely divine.

Notes

  • If you prefer a looser consistency, you can add more broth or a splash of milk before serving.
  • Pastina can stick together if left to sit, so serve it immediately after cooking for the best texture.
