Equipment

  • Wok or large frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups Broccoli florets
  • 1 cup Red bell pepper sliced
  • 1/2 cup Carrot thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup Green onions chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger grated
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds optional

Instructions

Step 1 – Prep Your Ingredients

  • Gather all ingredients.
  • Clean and cut vegetables as described.
  • Pat shrimp dry and set aside.
  • A good chef knows that preparation is half the battle in cooking.

Step 2 – Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, and cornstarch until smooth.
  • Mixing these components well ensures your sauce thickens perfectly, coating every piece of shrimp and vegetable gloriously.

Step 3 – Cook the Shrimp

  • Heat a tablespoon of oil in your wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the shrimp and stir-fry until they turn pink and are cooked through, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove shrimp from the wok and set aside.
  • Shrimp cooks quickly; overcooking can make them rubbery.

Step 4 – Stir Fry the Vegetables

  • In the same wok, add another tablespoon of oil.
  • Add the garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  • Toss in the broccoli, bell pepper, and carrots, stir-frying for about 5 minutes until they are just tender.
  • Keep those veggies vibrant by not overcooking them!

Step 5 – Bring It All Together

  • Return the shrimp to the wok.
  • Pour the sauce over the shrimp and vegetables.
  • Stir everything together and cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce is thickened and everything is heated through.
  • Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
  • The final toss is crucial for marrying the flavors!

Notes

  • For extra spice, add a teaspoon of chili flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
  • If you’re looking to thicken the sauce more, dissolve an extra teaspoon of cornstarch in a tablespoon of water and add it to the wok, stirring well.
