Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Aluminum foil
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces 6 oz each Fresh salmon fillets
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • To garnish Fresh parsley

Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare the Marinade

  • In a bowl, combine brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon zest, olive oil, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper.
  • Whisk until well mixed.
  • A good marinade is essential for infusing the salmon with flavors that pop.

Step 2 – Marinate the Salmon

  • Place the salmon fillets in a large dish or a ziplock bag.
  • Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is evenly coated.
  • Cover or seal, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally 2 hours.
  • Tip: The longer you marinate, the more flavorful the fish.

Step 3 – Cook the Salmon

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a touch of olive oil.
  • Once hot, place the marinated salmon fillets skin side down in the skillet.
  • Cook for 6-7 minutes on each side or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  • Cooking salmon with its skin on helps to hold the fillet together and adds a crispy texture.

Step 4 – Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the salmon from the skillet and place on a serving dish.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and a wedge of lemon.
  • Note: Always let your salmon rest for a few minutes after cooking to let the flavors meld together beautifully.

Notes

  • For crispier skin, pat the salmon dry before cooking.
  • If you prefer a smokier flavor, try grilling the salmon instead of pan-frying.
